Dearest friends,
Christmas 2017 has come and gone (although I'm spending the days still eating marvelous food, playing family games, and watching Christmas movies). How was your holiday? Please comment below with your favorite memory and/or your hopes for the New Year! I love catching up with everyone. Did you have a white Christmas? We had a miniature dusting of snow for the first time in ages!
In terms of lovely news: on December 23rd featured Happy It Away as a Daily Deviation! It's a rather sad and bitter piece, but I'm beyond honored that it touched others and new people enjoy my work.
In terms of other lovely news, it involves something I got for Christmas, but I think I'll sort of make that its own journal.
My Christmas break began excellently with hard-earned grades, a swing dance ball (complete with snow! and accompanied by an actual date - shhh), plenty of cookies, a couple parties, watching magnificent films like "The Last Jedi" and "Loving Vincent", and the excitement of buying gifts online. My proudest finds were a trapper hat and log-cabin incense burner for one brother, a stack of desired books for my sister, camera accessories for my photographer brother, and a Star Laboratories (from "The Flash") sweatshirt for my little brother.
The family was all here for Christmas, and even though a huge battle broke out when I was upstairs once (all I could do was sneak back upstairs...), the day itself was a beautiful reprieve. We actually do love each other.
A little Year's End Review...
- I was accepted into and began a competitive speech disorders program!
- I celebrated three years on DA, as well as two DDs!
- I finished my 3rd consecutive NaPoWriMo
- I read my poetry OUT LOUD at a campus event
- I crawled out of a depressed funk during the summer
- I was hired as a writing tutor (favorite job ever)
- I redecorated my room into a haven of vintage things, green walls, and forest-props. My current aesthetic is like a 1950s Rivendell...
- I was blessed to travel a lot this year, including going to Disney World and Saint Augustine, Florida with my family, the Smokies with two best friends, KY day trips when my pen pal visited, and a quiet autumn retreat, as well as a Chicago mission trip with my BCM family!
Goals for the New Year include...
- Learn to master my NEW UKULELE
- Earn my level one tutoring certification (no idea what it is, but it has to do with hours worked and would look swell on a resume)
- Join the Granny Club (hosted by a new friend/classmate) and learn to knit
- Survive the rest of junior year and give senior year a good kick
- Take the GRE *shudder*
- Find a summer job in childcare
- Go on another friend-road-trip (and visit new places in general!)
What about you?
Merry Christmas break and happy 2018!
- Emmie

Devious Journal Entry
I woke this morning somehow a bit homesick for bygone deviantart days, so I thought I would shout into the void for a moment to see if any old readers echo back. How is everyone?
At present, my life is full of profound blessings and tragedy. On one side, I have moved cities to finish up my grad school internship. I graduate in 2 months, and hopefully begin employment nearby. I grew in my faith exponentially over 2020, and most of that is due to getting involved in an incredible mission-focused church. They have loved me so well and so biblically since I arrived, even from a distance as I needed to temporarily move back in with my parents to
NaPoWriMo Wrap-up 2020
Hello my friends,
I have completed year 6 of my NaPoWriMo streak! Again, struggled to keep up while schooling and working from home, but it happened!
As you may note from the last poem, I am making plans to withdraw from DeviantArt slowly. I will post another journal soon with my thought process and next steps.
I hope you enjoy, and if you also took the challenge, link your favorite piece down below!
The Valley | July 2019
Hello artfolks,
I haven't updated you all in quite some time. Honestly, I'm writing this update to gather a few prayers and a little emotional support.
To begin, a recap 2019 so far: I made it through spring semester fairly gracefully, despite several leadership changes at work and in campus ministry. In May I stumbled through finals week with a terrible cold but a shockingly intact 4.0! At last I donned a cap and robe and walked across the stage having earned a bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. And glory to God, I applied, earned, and accepted my place in the graduate program. Miraculously, I also soared thr
NaPoWriMo Wrap-Up 2019
Hey friends,
Around day 18, I gave up. I told all my accountability poets I was tapping out. I was already so behind, school and work deadlines were looming, and I just couldn't see my way clear to finishing.
On the 29th I reread "Emily's Climb" and sprinted to the finish line. 13 poems, two days. And I'm so glad I did.

We had a typical 74f degree Christmas here in San Diego with the family and played a host of games....and opened gifts
This last year was filled with wedding "stuff" for our daughter which became a very beautiful day for us and our guests. Our photographer was awesome!

You'll love the uke! It can be simple enough to pick up right away. There are some good sites out there that help with tuning and also have cord charts.
For us, this year will be about finishing maintenance fixes around the house and vacationing at Mammoth Mountain in the summer.
I also will be part of a group exhibition in September so I need to get some pieces finished and framed.
Our little church group is looking to buy a place where we can meet. Until now we have been leasing and it's time to move into something more reliable, a lot of prayers and other efforts are going out for that to happen.
Happy new year to you Emmmie!
